Population Analysis Draws Statewide Media Attention

Published on: November 28 2011

An analysis of migration in and out of Michigan by Public Policy Associates Senior Policy Consultant Larry Rosen received widespread media attention.

The analysis found that more Michigan residents moved to Florida and Texas than any other states.  It showed a continuing exodus of residents from the state.

More than 178,000 residents left Michigan for other states, while fewer than 116,000 moved from other states to Michigan.  After factoring in foreign migration and migration from Puerto Rico, Michigan's net loss in population was about 16,700.

The analysis was conducted by Dr. Larry Rosen, a Senior Policy Consultant at PPA.  He is the former state demographer for the State of Michigan and is an expert on Census data and employment trends.

The analysis was shared and published as well by the Detroit Free Press, the Lansing State Journal, the Livingston Daily News, WJR radio, and others.
